We aren’t tied to one manufacturer, which means we can fit what suits the building and the budget rather than what we happen to stock. If you already have cameras, we’ll work with them where it makes sense to.

The survey

Good CCTV is mostly a planning problem. These are the things we’re working out on site, and getting them right is the difference between footage you can use and footage you can’t.

What each camera has to see
A camera covering a car park is doing a different job from one watching a till or a fire door. Identification, recognition and general observation need different placements — and putting one camera where two are needed is the most common reason footage turns out useless.

Light, at the worst time of day
Most sites are surveyed in daylight and most incidents don't happen then. We look at what a lens is facing into at dusk and after dark: headlights, low winter sun, a bright doorway against a dark yard.

Cabling, power and where it records
Runs, routes, power at the camera end, and where the recorder physically lives. This is the part that decides whether an install is straightforward or invasive, and it is worth knowing before anyone commits.

Who needs to see it, and from where
Remote viewing, who holds the credentials, and how footage gets exported when somebody actually needs a clip. A system nobody can get into at the moment it matters is not doing its job.

What the law expects of you
Operating CCTV in the UK carries data-protection obligations — signage, retention, and being able to answer a request for footage. We'll flag what your install needs to account for so it isn't a surprise afterwards.
Then we specify against what we found — not against a package chosen before anyone looked at the building.

Cameras are one layer of three.
CCTV records what happened. Access control decides who can open which door. Visitor management knows who was in the building. We do all three, which means they can be specified to work together instead of being three systems that happen to share a site.

Which CCTV system should we go for?
It depends on what the cameras need to achieve, the light they're working in and whether you want them on the same platform as your doors. We install Hikvision, HiLook, Zosi and Paxton among others, and we're not tied to any one manufacturer — so the recommendation comes from the survey rather than from what we happen to stock.
Can CCTV work with our access control?
Yes. Paxton10 runs access control and video management on a single platform, so a door event and the footage of it live in the same place — you click the event and the clip is there rather than matching timestamps across two systems. If your access control is on something else, the CCTV can still run perfectly well alongside it as its own system.
Can you add to or replace our existing cameras?
Usually, yes. Extending a system, swapping ageing cameras and reusing existing cabling where it's still fit for purpose are all normal parts of the job. If it was installed by someone else we'll look at how it's currently set up and wired before quoting anything.
How many cameras do we need?
Fewer than most people expect, placed better. One camera trying to cover a whole yard usually produces footage that shows an incident happened without showing who was involved. We work out what each camera has to see, then specify the number that actually achieves it.
What about GDPR and signage?
Operating CCTV in the UK carries data-protection obligations on you as the operator — signage telling people they're being recorded, a sensible retention period, and being able to respond if someone requests footage of themselves. We'll flag what your installation needs to account for so it isn't a surprise afterwards, though the ongoing legal responsibility stays with you.
Can we view the cameras remotely?
Yes, on every system we install. Exactly how depends on the platform, but viewing from a phone or a browser off-site is standard. We'll set it up and show your team how to use it at handover, including how to export a clip when you need one.

We cover Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding Staffordshire area, including Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall, Fenton, Longton, Newcastle-under-Lyme and Kidsgrove. We're a local business and we don't operate nationally. If you're near the edge of that area, ask us and we'll give you a straight answer.
